Sound Bath Experience
for Children with SEND
Therapeutic Sound
An ancient practice, sound has been used in many different cultures and traditions as means of bringing about balances within mind and body, encouraging enhanced well-being.
These sessions aim to improve mental, emotional and physical well-being by using specialist instruments that immerse the participants in therapeutic sound waves.

What is a sound bath?
Despite the term, baths are not needed for this session!
The 'bath' part refers to the sound and vibrations of the instruments washing over and through participants.
Whilst it is usual for participants to lay down, close their eyes and listen to the therapeutic sounds, some children will want to experience the session in a different way and that is absolutely fine!
The session
Your child will be introduced to a variety of instruments and invited to play a selection of them at the start of the session, using this as a chance to explore and become familiar with the sounds before inviting everyone present to get themselves into a comfortable position for the sound bath, a form of meditation.

As an alternative, calm activities or gentle movement are encouraged during the sound bath if this is more agreeable to the child.

Guided meditation, visualisation and breathing techniques may also be brought into the sessions to further aid relaxation.

Benefits of a Sound Bath experience
Relaxation
As the vibrations of the sounds synchronise and influence brain waves (the electrical patterns of the brain), the body and mind can start to experience a sense of relaxation
Feel Good Hormones
Sounds, vibrations and positive interactions within these sessions can stimulate feel good hormones, leaving children feeling more positive and energised.
Stress reduction
It is common for feelings of stress and anxiety to melt away as the change of fight or flight into rest and digest occurs
Connection
Whether watching, participating or just listening, these sound sessions can bring about connection to self, others and our environment through sounds that are made and vibrations that are felt
Improved sleep
Vibrational effects of the instruments can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, encouraging both body and mind to relax. This reduces the stress hormone, cortisol, and can refocus attention away from stressors, allowing for a calmer mind and thus improved sleep quality.

Tailored Sessions
Structure
The structure of these sessions is likely to vary depending on the needs of your child on the day. The aim is for participation to increase as your child gains trust and confidence and feels more relaxed and willing to participate in a way that suits them best. Play and other creative outlets may be brought into these sessions to help integrate children into the session in a way that makes them feel comfortable enough to participate.
Duration
These sessions will be 30 minutes long. Your child will receive the benefits from the sound and vibration through activity and relaxation
Communication
Participation may simply be being present without talking if that feels most agreeable to your child. Sound washes over and through any individuals, making it a passive therapy, allowing all those present to receive the benefits from the sound and vibrations made during the session.
Booking
Completing a booking form will allow me to tailor the sessions to the individual needs of your child and adapt the session appropriately, with the aim of creating a unique experience.
Parent/Guardian
All sessions require a parent or guardian to be present during these sessions to help with communication and ensure your child's needs are met effectively, creating a supportive, nurturing experience.
